The legendary play-by-play announcer of CBC Bob Cole passed away at 90 years old.

Cole died in St. John, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday night.

He'll be remembered by the hockey community for being the voice of hockey for more than 50 years. His catchphrase "Oh, baby!" was one of the most remarkable in the sport.

His work was praised by fans and players alike. He called his last game in 2019.

At the time, Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos had the following to say about him:

"His voice is iconic. It's all I associated with watching hockey growing up. He has a close spot in a lot of Canadians' hearts over the years."

The Maple Leafs captain John Tavares also commented when he retired:

"That was the guy you grew up listening to."
