Alex Ovechkin has been chasing Wayne Gretzky for years in pursuit of several unbreakable records. Last night he finally tied one of those elusive records.

Ovechkin Scores Twice In A Big Win

Alex Ovechkin finally had a breakout scoring night that we expect from him. Against the New York Islanders Ovechkin scored twice in a massive 4-1 win.

This was a huge night for Ovechkin and the Capitals who both have been struggling to begin the year. Ovechkin scored just his 3rd and 4th goals of the season in this one. For the Capitals they secure their 7th win of the season and are finally on a roll.
Individually for Ovechkin, he tied a record currently held by the greatest NHL player of all time Wayne Gretzky.

Alex Ovechkin finally was able to tie an NHL record he has been chasing in his pursuit of hockey immortality.
On his second goal that sealed the game, Ovechkin slid the puck into an empty net. This was his 56th empty net goal in his career tying him with Gretzky for the most all time.

This is just a small accomplishment in Ovechkin's pursuit of the ultimate goal record that Gretzky also holds. Regardless with one more empty net goal, he will be the all-time leader and one goal closer to the total goal record.
Both will be accomplishments to be very proud of when Ovechkin looks back on his NHL career.
