A new report from Chris Johnston reveals when the Toronto Maple Leafs may get Anthony Stolarz back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in an uncertainty with it unclear the timetable for a potential return for their starting goaltender Anthony Stolarz.
Stolarz left game 1 of the Leafs' second-round playoff match against Florida, his former team, in the second period
after a collision with Panthers Forward
Sam Bennett.
Stolarz was seen visibly unwell in the moments after the collision, later replaced by
Joseph Woll, who played in Game 2 for Toronto as Stolarz was unavailable, with the Leafs managing a 4-3 win despite not having their starter in net.
The NHL's leader in save percentage with a .926sv%, Stolarz has been key for Toronto, playing the entirety of the Leafs first round matchup against the Ottawa Senators, with a 2.19GAA and a .901sv% in seven games this postseason.
Now, there is some clarity about potentially when, or if, the Leafs will have Stolarz back in the series against Florida.
New Reporting Details the Status of Anthony Stolarz Ahead of Game 3
Chris Johnston has reported on the future of Anthony Stolarz, and the prognosis is still uncertain.
Stolarz will not be travelling with the Leafs to Florida ahead of Games 3 and 4 on the road, although as of right now, not commenting on whether that means Toronto will not have Stolarz back for those games.
The move means, at the very least, that Stolarz is still being evaluated for when he will return to the team, something that will be rigorous even with the Leafs needing Stolarz to be healthy.
The Leafs play Toronto tomorrow in Florida, meaning Stolarz would need to be cleared to play by either tonight or tomorrow morning to join the team, which could set him up to play Game 4 if he comes to Florida later, or Game 5 back in Toronto if healthy.
Concerns have been raised if Stolarz is dealing with a concussion, something that could sideline him for an extended period of time, potentially even throughout the playoffs.
As it stands, Joseph Woll has been able to come in as the backup to hold his own as starter, in part thanks to a highly competitive Leafs group carrying their weight.
But for Toronto, even up 2-0, the loss of their starting goaltender is not a scenario they wanted to be in, with it unclear just when they may get Anthony Stolarz back, if they do at all.
