Craig Berube Hints at Possible Lineup Change for Game 3 vs. the Senators
While the Maple Leafs did come out with a Game Two victory over Ottawa, but could he be in line for a change in Game Three? It's looking like there's potential.
The animosity didn't reach the levels of Game One but there was still some heat between both sides. Ottawa wouldn't back down and kept relentlessly hounding the Maple Leafs, and were much more disciplined than their first encounter.
However, that doesn't mean that there still isn't some room for improvement for the Maple Leafs, and with Craig Berube's latest comments going into Game Three, we might see some more changes going forward.
When asked if he was going to keep the same lines going forward given how much success the team has had recently, Berube explained that while it's likely the team will throw out the same lineup as they have the last two games, there's always a chance he can change things last minute:
Probably. We'll see. Still thinking about things. I haven't made my mind up yet on that.
Berube likes to make last-second decisions when it comes to his lineup and while it more often than not works out, it's hard to imagine where Toronto can improve elsewhere.
If
David Kampf is healthy he might find himself back in the lineup for someone like
Calle Jarnkrok, although he and his new fourth line group have done pretty well for themselves.
Nick Robertson might be a player who needs a reset in order to get him back into the swing of things, but it would involve breaking up that fourth line, unless Kampf plays the middle on the third line; an awkward but not unfeasible task for him.
There's also still
the issue of when or if
Max Pacioretty is coming back into the lineup, and with the team shifting gears heading into Ottawa for Games 3 and 4, perhaps adding the bigger Pacioretty will be a positive and try to cut off the Senators, but he's two months absent and will be a step behind everyone.
The best case scenario for Berube is to do what he did in Game One and adjust on the fly. There's no reason to change things up unless he sees something in game that needs fixing. It's the best way to both make changes without acting too drastic and ruining some chemistry.
We'll just have to see how the third game of the series turns out. If Ottawa comes away with a win, you bet we'll see a change. But if Toronto heads into the fourth game with a 3-0 lead?
Craig Berube better not mess with anything, no matter what.
