Major Update on Max Pacioretty's Playoff Availability for Game 1

With the Leafs set to have a tough first round regardless of who they face, they are going to need as much firepower as possible, and with their current crop of injuries, that seems more critical than ever with only a week or so to go in the season.

However, the team could see the return of one key player who's been out since mid-February, and it might be just what the team needs to push them into that next gear.

Max Pacioretty was seen skating with the team at their optional practice ahead of their game against Montreal. He was also seen in a regular jersey, which means there isn't much that's preventing him from playing, and could simply be a factor of the cap.

Craig Berube however, was confident a couple of weeks ago when asked if Pacioretty was on the verge of making a return, more specifically for Round One.

His return would not only give Toronto a chance to add an offensive threat back into their lineup, but provide that veteran leadership and an extra edge to the bottom half. Playing like a runaway freight train, Pacioretty was able to set the tone in games, and was looking like he was making a career resurgence of sorts.

But multiple injuries derailed that comeback somewhat, and he's only managed to suit up in 37 games this season after dealing with three separate stints on the IR.

In those games though, Pacioretty has put up 13 points (5G, 8A) while also adding 14 blocks, 105 hits, and a minus-2 rating in only 13:30 TOI.

Seeing Pacioretty back on the ice is a win in itself, and his journey through some career-threatening injuries to continue his career has to be admired.

But if he can come back in time for the Maple Leafs' playoff push? He could be the factor that brings them the biggest prize of them all.
