Matthew Knies was promoted to the first line last night, and he made the most of that opportunity.

He played a huge role in the Leafs' comeback against the Lightning.

Not only did he score early in the game, but he also had two assists for a total of three points in his first game on Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner's line.

He was also named the Leafs' player of the game for the second time this year.

His goal impressed many. He showed great hand-eye coordination as he knocked down a flying puck before shooting past the goalie on the backhand.

In his post-game press conference, Knies revealed that Ryan O'Reilly, AKA "Factor," had a huge influence on his goal.

O'Reilly helped him work on that kind of puck recovery during his time with the Leafs.

Matthew Knies spent a lot of time this summer focusing on knocking pucks out of the air, thanks to Ryan O'Reilly's advice during the playoffs: "Factor was a big influence on that and does a really good job with that kind of stuff. It kind of opened my eyes to it a little bit."

Every young player picks things up along the way, and that's why it's important to ensure there's a strong veteran presence in their development.

This is only one lesson. We can't wait to see what he does next.
