Liljegren played in 55 games for the Leafs this season, potting 3 goals and adding 20 helpers for 23 points, roughly a 40-point pace over the course of a full season. He blocked more than two shots per game on average, with 116 on the season, and was a +3. However, giveaways remain an issue for the 25-year-old as he had 40 in the regular season, compared to just 10 takeaways.
Notably, Liljegren is a RFA this summer and he does not currently have a contract in place with the Leafs. The team will hold onto his rights until they sign or trade him. The fact that he remains unsigned could be a sign that the team is looking to trade him though.
Leafs fans have already started to propose potential trades involving Liljegren, including one blockbuster that would send Liljegren to the Nashville Predators along with Mitch Marner and David Kampf in exchange for Jusse Saros, Thomas Novak, Jeremy Lauzon, and prospect Matthew Wood.
It will certainly be interesting to see if the Leafs chose to trade Liljegren this summer. That being said, fans of the team should probably not expect his trade to be quite this dramatic.
