Just two games into his NHL career, Toronto Maple Leafs player Matthew Knies was robbed of the chance to score his first career NHL goal - by his own teammate.

Knies Gets Assist

Knies came in for a one-timer, sending the puck trickling past Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, in what surely would be his first NHL goal. Instead, teammate Ryan O'Reilly made sure the puck went in, robbing Knies of the goal but allowing Knies to record his first NHL point.

Knies was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2021 NHL Draft. However, the forward just signed with the Leafs, shortly after his college team, the Minnesota Gophers, lost the Frozen Four Championship in overtime.

O'Reilly Apologizes

O'Reilly could later be seen on the bench apologizing to Knies for taking away what was sure to be his first NHL goal.

The Leafs sealed the deal to secure a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning that night.
