Kyle Dubas rumoured to trade for Mitch Marner as speculations emerge
The Pittsburgh Penguins' President of Hockey Operations is rumoured to trade for Toronto Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner as speculations emerge.
There's probably no one around the league who know Mitch Marner like Kyle Dubas does.
They worked together in Toronto for five years, and with Marner entering the last season of his six-year $10,903,000 AAV deal, signed by Dubas in 2019, major speculations emerged linking Marner to the Penguins and Dubas.
However, it won't be an easy task: the Penguins have a few financial issues of their own that could complicate the materialization of a Marner trade.
In order for a deal to happen, they'd need to trade a few players, such as Marcud Pettersson and Tristan Jarry, according to a new report:
"The one player that Toronto could be very interested in acquiring is goaltender Tristan Jarry. Alex Nedeljkovic is a pending UFA, but if he re-signs in Pittsburgh, Jarry would most likely be on the trade block and the Leafs should jump on him. With a career 2.70 GAA and .912 SV%, Jarry is an above-average goaltender and someone who would be a better option than re-signing Ilya Samsonov."
The Leafs already have two interesting young goaltenders in the organization with Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby. Getting Jarry, who's coming off a difficult season would be surprising, even if they decide to get rid of Ilya Samsonov.
Pettersson would be a better fit, in our opinion. The Leafs need defensemen and he could be a valuable asset in Toronto.
In the end, trading Marner to Pittsburgh would be amazing to see. Alongside Sidney Crosby, their first line would be devastating.
