Andreas Johnsson has had quite the career in North America. Considering he was drafted in the 7th round he beat the odds and contributed to several NHL clubs. Now his time in the NHL appears to be over though.
Hockey player Andreas Johnsson leaves the Penguins And The NHL To Sign In Europe
Johnsson signed a one-year 800k deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins this offseason after he split time between the Devils and the Sharks last year as part of the Erik Karlsson trade. However, he did not make the Penguins out of camp and was subsequently sent down to the AHL. Johnsson chose not to report to his new team though and now we know why.
It was reported this afternoon that Johnsson has agreed to a three-year deal with Skellefteå of the Swedish Hockey League. The Penguins and Johnsson are set to mutually agree to terminate his contract tomorrow as he must go on waivers before the deal can be made.
Johnsson played 259 games in the NHL for three teams, putting up 116 points in the process. If this is the end of his career in North America, he can be proud of what he accomplished as a 7th round draft pick.
