Penguins Reporter Mark Madden is reporting The Pittsburgh Penguins are closing in on hiring Kyle Dubas as their next General Manager.
Dubas, who was let go by the Toronto Maple Leafs after 5 seasons with the team, having made the playoffs through his tenure.
Dubas was let go by the Leafs, days after a end-of-season media availability in which he said he was unsure of his future with the Team. Leafs President Brendan Shanahan later revealed in a press conference following Dubas' dismissal that factors related to finances contributed to Dubas not being re-signed as GM.
Dubas, 37, now takes over the Penguins. With an aging core in Sidney Crosby, 35, Evgeni Malkin, 36, and Kris Letang, 36. Pittsburgh relieved GM Ron Hextall of his role at the end of the season.
After rebuilding the Leafs from scratch, Dubas will surely now look to do the same in Pittsburgh, building depth for a team that's close to a change in identity.
