It's well-known around the League that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the market for a defenseman, as they have been riddled with injuries on the blueline this year. While many reports have the Leafs showing significant interest in Chris Tanev of the Calgary Flames, a new report has surfaced that has the Leafs showing interest in San Jose Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro.
Ferraro is exactly what the Leafs need on the blueline. While he isn't much of a goal scorer, Ferraro plays heavy minutes for the struggling San Jose Sharks, being on their top pairing. He could help the Leafs out as a stay-at-home defenseman who can take some time on the Penalty Kill when required.
Best of all, Ferraro is on a friendly contract of just $3.25 million per season, all the way until 2026. This would help the Leafs out as they are strapped for cap space and have some upcoming contract negotiations to sort out.
