According to TSN reporter and NHL insider Darren Dreger, the Oilers are close to finalizing a deal that would see Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault delt to the Blue and Orange.
Oilers fans, players, and media members alike are all starting to sound like a broken record. Stuart Skinner, the de facto starter in Edmonton after Jack Campbell was sent to the AHL, was pulled yet again tonight after giving up 4 goals on just 14 shots.
Skinner now has a 4-6-1 record to go along with his 3.66 goals-against-average and his .865 save percentage. League average this year for goals-against-average is 2.98 and save percentage is .903.
The Oilers have already exhausted basically every possible option other than making a trade. They fired head coach Jay Woodcroft although the team was playing fine for him, his goalies just could not stop the puck. Now new head coach Kris Knoblauch is learning 1st hand just how bad the goaltending has been in Edmonton.
It is only a matter of time before something changes in Edmonton. Connor McDavid has clearly had enough.
