The Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly in trade talks with the Vancouver Canucks in order to acquire forward Conor Garland, according to insider Eklund. While it is not yet known what the Canucks would be hoping for in return, this would be a huge trade that could have more moving pieces.
As Eklund notes, both teams really could use some pieces on the backend, which makes them interesting trade partners. However, they could find something that works, and Pittsburgh may even look to flip Garland for a defenseman, or, the other pieces that Eklund mentions could be defensive assets.
While the Penguins haven't had the worst start compared to other teams around the league, their 5-6 record is slow enough to land them in the bottom of the metropolitan division. A blockbuster trade could be what the team needs to re-energize coming into the second quarter of the season.
