The Montreal Canadiens' selection of defenceman Logan Mailloux in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft stunned fans, analysts, and even other teams' management.

This pick's surprise isn't due to Mailloux's skill. In fact, he had 18 goals and 69 points in 48 games with the London Nationals of the GOJHL in 2019-20. Mailloux had asked teams not to select him after recently being fined for sharing sexually explicit photos of a woman without her consent.
Many were disappointed, but perhaps the most notable was Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a longtime Habs fan who was disappointed by the organisation after the selection.
«As a lifelong Habs fan, I am deeply disappointed,» Trudeau said today. «I believe the Canadiens organisation lacked judgement. They have a lot to explain to Montrealers and Canadians.»
This pick was shocking and questionable by the Habs organisation. The team issued a statement explaining their selection, which enraged some even more. This is a move that has harmed the Canadiens organization's reputation and will not be soon forgotten.
