The Canadiens are 24-21-11 and have qualified for the playoffs. They stepped up in the postseason and made it to the Stanley Cup Final. This team has a lot of young talent that should improve in the future. But they have more work to do this off-season. The Atlantic Division has many good teams, so adding more talent wouldn't hurt.
Here are three summer moves they must make.
Re-sign Corey Perry: The Montreal Canadiens waived Corey Perry at the start of the season. It's funny now, because he ended up being a huge player for them after going unclaimed. In 49 games, he scored nine goals and had 21 points. He didn't play much, but he made a difference. It's hard to argue with 10 points in 22 playoff games. He also wants to stay, so Montreal should make it happen.
Mr. Savard is expected to be signed by the Canadiens this off-season, according to Elliotte Friedman. Since Shea Weber will be out for the entire season, this would be a good signing. Although not as good as Weber, Savard is a top-four defenseman who plays hard. Ultimately, they need to strengthen their blueline. They can't buy a Weber replacement.
If the Canadiens can't re-sign Phillip Danault, they'll need to find a new centre. They should bring in at least one middle-six. They've been linked to Jack Eichel, but it's unlikely. They could look to sign pending free agent David Krejci if he becomes available. It was his eighth goal and 44th point in 51 games.
