Last night Predators forward Kiefer Sherwood fought Jake McCabe and near the end of the fight Sherwood was throwing punches that are banned in the UFC.

When the Predators faced off against the Maple Leafs last night things got a bit chippy. It all boiled over after Jake McCabe decided to drop the gloves with Kiefer Sherwood which McCabe instantly regretted.

Eventually, the referees stepped in but clearly, those extra few punches were not necessary as McCabe was already down. The UFC bans any hits to the back of the head or the neck area as they are far more dangerous and could result in life-changing injuries.
Sherwood Gets No Supplementary Discipline
While the UFC has these types of punches banned, the NHL does not. Some were expecting there to be a fine or even suspension for Sherwood after this, the NHL DoPS deemed that this was just hockey and let Sherwood be.
Hopefully, this does not establish a precedent of allowing dangerous hits as this could have ended much worse for McCabe.
