It was a scary scene when Jeff Carter of the Pittsburgh Penguins ran directly into Cale Makar's head during last nights' matchup. Makar, the reigning Conn Smythe, and Norris trophy winner had to leave the game for concussion protocol, but was luckily able to return.

It's pretty easy to see that Carter made a distinct move towards Makar's head, and that there was little or no effort to slow down. However, officials viewed the event differently, much to the chagrin of Makar.
Pretty blindside," Makar said of the incident in the dressing room afterward. "The ref said apparently we ran into each other, but I don't know how that's possible. He was coming down the ice.
I'm not sure how that video can be seen as anything other than a dirty hit from Carter, who will likely be rightfully suspended. There wasn't even a penalty on the play, which angered Makar.
Head coach Jared Bednar agreed with Makar's sentiment:
«(Carter) skated right through his head. That's what I saw.»
There being no penalty on the play is incredibly frustrating, but hopefully the Department of Player Safety will make up for it.
