Latest Move By the Maple Leafs Indicates the Worst for Matt Murray
While Matt Murray has performed mostly well as a member of the Maple Leafs, after the high-risk trade pulled off by Kyle Dubas in the off-season, he has still struggled with injury throughout the season.
While he has only been LTIR for one small stint earlier in the campaign, new moves indicate he could be a long way out from returning.
The Maple Leafs issued an emergency call-up to Joseph Woll from AHL Toronto this morning.
The Marlies goalie has been exceptional, going almost undefeated this season. As exciting as it will be to see Woll in the NHL, the underlying story is that Matt Murray hasn't returned.
Woll will have to be sent back down to the AHL and called back up on a non-emergency basis if Murray is to be out long-term. We'll definitely have to keep an eye out for that move on the horizon.
With Ilya Samsonov holding the fort down, there should be no rush for Murray to get healthy. As long as he's at his best for the playoffs!
