In a tier below the ECHL, there lies the SPHL. In the SPHL, hockey gets interesting. Contracts are given with a weekly term, and there is crazy turnover. Players are tough, and thrifty.
In one of the weirdest things we've ever seen, when the SPHL's Vermillion County Bobcats simply just didn't show up to one of their home games, they forfeited by technicality - in front of their fans.
SPHL drama in Danville, where host Vermilion County never showed up for game vs Quad City. It's a forfeit win for QC. Most bizarre thing I've seen in 40 years covering pro hockey. QC bused in, skated warmups, lined up national anthem/faceoff, skated a lap, then saluted "crowd"
