BREAKING: Russia's Future in the Olympics Confirmed
In breaking news today, the Olympic Committee has announced Russia's fate for their future participation in the games.
Olympic Committee Allows Russia to Participate Under Strict Rules
After much speculation on their potential participation, The Olympic Committee has just announced that Russia will indeed be able to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. This is massive news, as it will likely carry over to the Winter Games in 2026, paving the way for Russian hockey players to participate in the games.
However, there is a twist, as the Board has decided that Russian athletes will have to compete as Individual Neutral Athletes.
"The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided that Individual Neutral Athletes (AINs) who have qualified through the existing qualification systems of the International Federations (IFs) on the field of play will be declared eligible to compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in accordance with the conditions outlined below. Individual Neutral Athletes are athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport."
Now, all that remains is for Gary Bettman to get a deal done that would allow NHL players to represent their Countries in 2026, seeing a true best-on-best international tournament that fans and players alike have been hoping for.
