The Toronto Maple Leafs are still in desperate need of some important trade moves down the stretch. The Leafs' defence is in dire need of some reinforcements, as it was announced that John Klingberg is officially done for the year, and Timothy Liljegren still has some time left before he returns. However, any move for a top defenseman will come with its price.
Unfortunately for the Leafs, they are strapped for cap space, even with Klingberg's salary on LTIR. However, Leafs Nation's Nick Alberga has indicated that the Leafs may be shopping fourth-liner David Kampf in order to clear some of that room.
David Kampf just re-signed with the Leafs this offseason for 4 years with a $2.4 million AAV. This is slightly overpaid for a fourth-line guy, considering the fact that his linemate Noah Gregor is getting league minimum and out producing him.
Every penny counts for the Leafs, and moving Kampf could be the right play to clear enough space to help out on the blue line, and that would be a move worth making.
