NHL Defenseman Ryan Ellis is likely done with hockey due to injury. President Of Hockey Operations for the Philadelphia Flyers Keith Jones spoke to the media about Ellis' health status.

#Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones told reporters today that D Ryan Ellis has a torn psoas muscle in his back, and has likely played his last NHL game.

Jones when asked about a surgical option for Ellis:

"I think that he's exhausting everything that he can in order to play, like we all do. You never want to have the void of not doing something that you'd love to do. He did it very effectively when he played so it's got to be really difficult."

With Jones' comments it sounds like there is still a slight chance that Ellis makes it back to play but even then it would be a long road of recovery before that happens.

Successful Career Likely At An End

Ryan Ellis spent 11 seasons in the NHL all but one came with the Nashville Predators. Ellis was a good reliable performer in the regular season. He really was able to take his game to the next level and thrive in the playoffs though. His best playoff run came in 2017 when he scored 13 points in 22 total games on the way to the Stanley Cup Finals. Ellis and the Preds would eventually fall to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ellis To Long-Term IR

Ryan Ellis currently has 4 years left on his contract at $6.25 Million per season. This means he will likely land on IR and be one of the players who have their contract traded from team to team to create or take up salary cap space.
