Sheldon Keefe announced today the forward Calle Jarnkrok has been missing from training camp due to an injury. The injury at the moment is considered to be day-to-day.
This will be a great opportunity for first-round pick Easton Cowan to get his shot in the preseason. For Jarnkrok the injury does not seem to be too serious which is a good sign for the Maple Leafs and their fans.
So far during their Stanley Cup competitive window, the Toronto Maple Leafs have stayed relatively healthy. This needs to continue for them to be true contenders. Especially when looking at the core four which makes up a significant portion of the offensive production.
With the additions of Max Domi, Tyler Bertuzzi, and John Klingberg the Maple Leafs are not nearly as top-heavy as in prior years. This will help if injuries do creep in particularly to depth players like Jarnkrok.
Hopefully for everyone involved Jarnkrok experiences no setbacks and is back for opening day. Last season he was a successful depth player for the Maple Leafs producing 39 points in 73 games. Toronto will need this type of production again from Jarnkrok in the upcoming season.
