Dark Horse Team Makes Shocking Entry into Jake Guentzel Sweepstakes

The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently 9 point off a playoff spot and are set on potentially switching up their roster. It all starts with pending UFA forward Jake Guentzel. Insider Elliotte Friedman named a rising darkhorse in the Guentzel sweepstakes.

Friedman links Guentzel with reigning champs

Guentzel is the biggest trade chip in play and will be the number one player on every NHL trade bait board. Today NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Vegas Golden Knights have interest in acquiring Guentzel.




Vegas placed Jack Eichel on LTIR and also find themselves without their captain Mark Stone for a while, leaving them with some extra money to play around with.

When it comes to Vegas and acquiring star players, you should never count them out, they will find a way regardless of their cap situation, assets, etc.

Guentzel is currently injured and is on LTIR until March 10th, which is coincidentally two days after the trade deadline, Mike Sullivan gave an update saying that he resumed skating, and has joined the team on their western conference roadtrip.

Perhaps the Penguins are giving positive updates to potentially lure buying teams back in the circle for Jake Guentzel.
