A new documentary will feature former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brendan Shanahan following his contract not being renewed.
The second season of 'Faceoff: Inside the NHL' on Amazon Prime Video will have Shanahan as one of the many involved in the NHL featured in-depth in the documentary showcasing the top faces of the league.
Shanahan was filmed by Amazon while actively part of the Leafs management staff, and will showcase his role with the team.
Since then, Shanahan was not retained as the Leafs President,
announced by the team that they would not be renewing his contract following a second round playoff loss to the Florida Panthers.
It's unclear if the documentary will showcase internal matters between Shanahan and upper management led by the Leafs ownership group, Major League Sports & Entertainment (MLSE).
Nylander Featured For Second Time In Documentary Series
William Nylander will make his second appearance in 'Faceoff' having done so in season one. The series will look at Nylander throughout the season, having last season explored his views on the year, as well as his friendship with rival
David Pastrnak.
Both Nylander and Pastrnak played hockey together in Sweden before making the jump to the NHL, remaining as friends despite the heated rivalry between the Bruins and Leafs, which found the two teams in battle in the playoffs which Pastrnak won for Boston in Game 7.
Once again, Nylander will feature and be candid in the Leafs season, being able to reflect yet again on the team and its changes, as well as his view on events revolving around the team.
Both Nylander and Shanahan will be able to provide a close look into the inner workings of the team, providing both insight and revelations to the Leafs.
Other details of 'Faceoff' Revealed, Crosby, Tkachuk's Among Cast
Along with William Nylander and Brendan Shanahan, multiple NHL stars will be focused upon throughout the documentary.
The Tkachuk Brothers, Matthew & Brady, will both feature in the series. Also to be involved is Pittsburgh Penguins star
Sidney Crosby. Former Pens teammate
Marc-Andre Fleury, who has announced his retirement, will also appear.
Mikko Rantanen will feature as well, likely documenting his trades from Colorado and Carolina, and his time with the Stars. Rantanen's Dallas teammates
Thomas Harley and
Wyatt Johnston will make appearances, as well as Rantanen's former Hurricanes teammate
Seth Jarvis.
Sean Monahan will also be one of the many focused upon. Monahan signed with the Blue Jackets in the offseason in hopes of playing alongside friend and former teammate Johnny Gaudreau who passed away in August after being killed by an impaired driver.
Monahan will be one of two Blue Jackets players featured along with Zach Werenski. Likely Gaudreau will be a topic of discussion and Monahan's personal impact dealing with the death of a close friend.
Finally, Los Angeles Kings forwards
Anze Kopitar &
Quinton Byfield will be in the series, documenting their short playoff run and the team's maturing youth group.
