A Toronto Maple Leafs head coach is leaving the team and will immediately be headed to a new position.
The Seattle Kraken have announced that Leafs assistant coach Lane Lambert has been named as the newest Head Coach of the Kraken.
Lambert has been with the Leafs for just a season, having previously been the Head Coach of the New York Islanders.
In two seasons with the Islanders, Lambert had a 61-46-20 record as a head coach, previously an associate with the team, and before that an assistant with the Nashville Predators and the Washington Capitals.
Lambert replaces Dan Bylsma, who was let go by the Kraken at the end of the regular season.

In a statement, Kraken GM Jom Botterill welcomed Lambert to Seattle and to the Kraken.
After conducting an extensive search, we're thrilled to announce Lane as our new head coach,» said Botterill. «We cast a wide net for suitable candidates. What impressed us throughout the interview process was Lane's strategy and vision for this team. He was an integral part of the Capitals winning the Cup and the Islanders advancing to two straight Eastern Conference finals. We have full confidence in Lane to lead this team behind the bench.

The Toronto Maple Leafs took to social media to give their congratulations to Lambert on the new role.
Lambert is the second major piece to exit the Leafs in the last month but the first to do so by his own choosing as team President Brendan Shanahan was announced to not have his contract renewed after this past season.
The Seattle Kraken had a 35-41-6 record in their fourth NHL season and first under Bylsma after their first three years were led by Dave Hakstol, who like Lambert was an assistant in Toronto before taking lead behind the bench Seattle.
