The Toronto Maple Leafs struck a late trade to bolster their offense in adding forward depth.

The trade deadline may be over but that doesn't mean there aren't some last minute deals in place. Toronto ended up making one of those as their new-look roster takes shape.
The Leafs have acquired forward Reese Johnson from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for future considerations.
Johnson, 26, has appeared in three games this season for the Wild, and has played primarily in the AHL for the Wild's affiliate, Iowa.
In 49 games with Iowa, Johnson had four goals in 13 points.

Who is Reese Johnson?

Undrafted after a juniors career in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels, Johnson signed as a NHL free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2019.
Johnson missed parts of his draft and the entirety of his D+1 season with a shoulder injury that required surgery, derailing his early career.
Johnson came back with back-to-back 20-goal seasons for the Rebels along with fellow undrafted forward and later Blackhawks teammate Brandon Hagel.
In 144 career NHL games, Johnson had seven goals and 17 points in parts of five seasons with the Blackhawks and Wild.
Johnson, who is signed to a one-year, two-way deal, will likely be assigned to the AHL with the Toronto Marlies in order to help replace the losses of Fraser Minten & Nikita Grebenkin to Boston and Philadelphia respectively.
The deal is the final trade of the 2025 NHL trade deadline, according to David Pagnotta, and the third trade from Toronto who acquired forward Scott Laughton from the Flyers & defenseman Brandon Carlo from the Bruins.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are second in the Atlantic Division with 79 points and a 38-21-3 record in 62 games played.
Fans will get a chance to see the new look Maple Leafs as they head into action against the Colorado Avalanche (who themselves were very busy this deadline) on Saturday night.
