The Toronto Maple Leafs confirm Guy Boucher won't be back next season
The Toronto Maple Leafs confirmed that Guy Boucher won't be back behind the bench next season.
In breaking news, the Maple Leafs organization announced that Guy Boucher, who was hired last summer as Sheldon Keefe's assistant coach, will be replaced.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that assistant coach Guy Boucher will not return to the coaching staff."
In a busy start to the offseason following a disappointing playoff exit in the first round, the Toronto Maple Leafs' management replaced Sheldon Keefe with Craig Berube and Dean Chynoweth with Lane Lambert; it's now Guy Boucher's turn to be shown the exit door.
Boucher failed to bring the Leafs' power play to the next level. In 2022-23, with Spencer Carbery, Toronto had a 26% PP. With Boucher in 2023-24, it dropped to 23.9%.
The Leafs wanted a fresh start and hired Berube, who gets the chance to choose whom he wants to bring with him as assistants.
There are a lot of rumors out there about who will replace Boucher. A few good candidates are available, but Marc Savard emerged as the top contender:
"Hearing rumblings of Craig Berube as the new Maple Leafs head coach with the possibility of Marc Savard joining him on the coaching staff 👀"
