During the most recent addition of Insider Trading with Pierre LeBrun, he discussed a big name that has been mentioned as available. LeBrun believes if the Minnesota Wild struggle to stay in the race they could look to move future Hall of Famer Marc-Andre Fleury.
LeBrun continues to say that if Fleury is indeed made available via trade the Toronto Maple Leafs could be one of the favorites to land him.
If Fleury does become available the Maple Leafs would need to seriously consider the opportunity to add him to the organization.
The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending situation has been an area of concern all season. The poor play of Ilya Samsonov to start the year and then the injury to Joseph Woll. Martin Jones who was called up in Woll's absence has gone through a cold stretch as well.
This leaves the Maple Leafs in a difficult position. While Woll is back skating and on the road to being back in the lineup relying on him off of injury is a huge risk. Both Samsonov and Jones have shown they cannot be trusted in the long run. So then the question becomes how much would it cost to land Fleury.
With Fleury having a 3.5 million dollar cap hit the Maple Leafs would either need to move out salary or have the Wild retain salary themselves. With how thin the goalie market is at the moment the price to acquire a goalie the quality of Fleury could be incredibly steep including top prospects or high-value picks.
As of now, the links to Fleury are just rumors if they become more than that we will continue to update this story.
