The NHL trade deadline is fast approaching. In the race toward the deadline, each piece of new information connects teams. Today the Maple Leafs dropped a couple of major hints that linked them to other teams at the deadline.

Maple Leafs Scouts Remain Busy Ahead Of The Trade Deadline

This week the Toronto Maple Leafs scouts have been incredibly busy looking for trade targets around the NHL. The first game the Maple Leafs were spotted in attendance at was the Seattle Kraken and Boston Bruins matchup.

Tonight's #SEAvsBOS game is being scouted by DAL, CAR, NYR, MTL, NYI, NJD, MIN, TOR, VGK, DET, SJS, NSH, VAN.

In addition, there was a scout in attendance for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks game.

Visiting Chicago tonight for the return of Connor Bedard (and scouting one of the #Blackhawks or Penguins):

BUF (2), NSH, WPG, TOR, COL, TB, NJD

With all of these teams now on the radar, we can take a look at what players might be available to scoop up from each of the squads.

Evaluating Trade Partners For The Toronto Maple Leafs At The Deadline

Each of these teams likely has a player or two that the Toronto Maple Leafs would be interested in landing. Let's take a look at an option or two from each team that could make sense.

First up is the Seattle Kraken who currently sit four points out of a playoff spot. If they were looking to sell off an expiring contract there are a couple of players the Maple Leafs could target.

The most interesting candidate up front is Alexander Wennberg. The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract and could be a good addition to the middle six. If the Maple Leafs want a defenseman veteran Justin Schultz could be an option out of Seattle.

Next up is the Boston Bruins who are an unlikely trade partner due to the division rivalry and the fact that the Bruins are contenders. A couple of names to keep an eye on are James Van Riemsdyk, Danton Heinen, and Derek Forbore.

Third on the list is the Chicago Blackhawks. When it comes to the Blackhawks the most enticing name on a relatively weak roster is Tyler Johnson. Johnson is not the player he used to be but could be a nice veteran presence with Stanley Cup experience. He also likely wouldn't cost much.

Finally, we have the Pittsburgh Penguins. Up until the untimely injury to Jake Guentzel he might have been a player to watch if the Maple Leafs wanted a big shake-up.

However, with that off of the table veteran depth forward Vinnie Hinostroza might be the best cheap option. Adding Alex Nedeljkovic could help stabilize goaltending if the Maple Leafs feel desperate to make a move.

All of these teams have their advantages and disadvantages to working with. The Maple Leafs will need to find the deal that they find most beneficial to bring a Stanley Cup back to the city of Toronto.
