The Ottawa Senators sign former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer following the loss of starter Linus Ullmark.
James Reimer has signed a professional tryout contract with the Ottawa Senators organization, signing an AHL tryout with Belleville, one that is expected to lead to an NHL deal.
According to Darren Dreger, Reimer is expected to convert his AHL PTO to an NHL deal in the coming days as Senators starter Linus Ullmark left the team on a personal leave of absence.
With Ullmark out of the lineup, Leevi Meralainen and Mads Sogaard take on the Sens goaltending tandem, with Reimer beginning prep work to likely bring him into the NHL lineup.
Reimer, 37, was a fourth round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs, 99th overall. Reimer spent six seasons with the Leafs and has spent 15 NHL seasons with seven different teams.
Splitting last season with the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks, Reimer had a 10-10-2 record in 24 games played with a 3.04 GAA and a .896 SV%.
Reimer was signed to a tryout contract with the Leafs in the preseason due to a leave of absence to Joseph Woll. Toronto released Reimer after claiming goaltender Cayden Primeau off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.
