A new report reveals the surprise trade value that could see the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Bobby McMann.

New reporting suggests that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann could net a substantial return on the trade market, making him a potential option for the Leafs to recoup assets.
McMann, 29, has 13 goals and 23 points in 41 games this season for the Leafs, having been a key part of Toronto's top-six over the last two seasons.
In the final year of a contract making just $1.35M annually, a new report suggests that contract could be highly valuable and give the Leafs some consideration over trading McMann elsewhere.

Why Bobby McMann is suddenly a potential trade chip

According to Nick Kypreos, Bobby McMann could gain over $4M as a free agent. If the Leafs were to trade him now while he has a bargain contract, it could net at least two quality pieces for the Leafs.
While the Leafs goal is to win now, they haven't shied away from looking at improving their top-six, and could clear out McMann to do so, whether that'd be in a deal directly for McMann, or a move meant to open up space for an addition at forward.
Toronto has reportedly been targeting some help on defense as reports suggest that defenseman Chris Tanev could miss the rest of the regular season.
Toronto could position themselves to deal McMann and add another budget winger along with some help on defense as their two assets. While it helps the blueline, if it helps on offense will be the question.
The Leafs could also use a return for adding some assets in prospects and picks, something Toronto is currently lacking depth wise.
McMann is one of the top value contracts in the NHL in terms of production relative to salary, making him a player that Toronto would rather re-sign, but if not, could help the Leafs for the better.
Although there's nothing concrete to suggest McMann could be on the move or any idea of the Leafs making McMann available, but if so, Toronto could ultimately gain more assets that help them overall.
