William Nylander is not at practice for the Toronto Maple Leafs as details of his absence are unknown.

It was not clear why William Nylander is not at practice for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but multiple reports have confirmed that the Leafs star winger is not practicing with the team today.
Toronto plays a preseason game tonight against the Montreal Canadiens, although Nylander was one of many of the Leafs top players left off tonight's roster.
It's not known if Nylander's absence from the Leafs is for any injury reason, if there is a personal matter, or if the move is just a precautionary one, all things left to be answered.
According to Nick Barden of 'The Hockey News, a status from head coach Craig Berube will come on the absence of William Nylander.

What Nylander's Absence Means for the Maple Leafs' Forward Group

As mentioned, Nylander is not participating in Tonight's game for Montreal, nor is the rest of Toronto's top forwards, likely to play Saturday's game against the Canadiens.
It's unclear if Nylander will be available for that match, or if he will be our for an extended period of time.
Toronto will be holding their breath and hoping that they aren't without a major part of their roster for any extended period of time, already with an uncertain top-six as it is.

Injury Concerns Piling Up With Benoit Also Missing Practice

Along with William Nylander, defenseman Simon Benoit is another player who at this time is unavailable for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Benoit suffered an injury in training camp, with Berube saying that a timeline for Benoit's return is currently unknown, although the hope is that he will be able to be with the team again soon.
Benoit is currently skating on his own, not having rejoined the Leafs. Max Domi, a player who was out for Toronto, has resumed practicing with the main club.
Also absent is Joseph Woll for personal reasons, like Benoit his return unknown, and one that has been indicated could have him out for a solid period of time, unclear when his return may be.
The early season absences have been difficult for the Toronto Maple Leafs who are trying to piece their roster together for the start of the season with a new look and identity, and have been left with a few questions with players suddenly unavailable.
