'You play for the Leafs?': Maple Leafs Forward Stopped by Security in Awkward First-Day Mix-Up

It was an awkward time for Dakota Joshua as he gets acclimated with the Maple Leafs as an unfamiliar security guard nearly prevented him from joining the team.
Training camp for Toronto Maple Leafs forward Dakota Joshua has been a rollercoaster to say the least. He managed to play in his first preseason game on Tuesday and while he didn't hit the scoresheet,
he hit the Senators all night to the tune of five bone-crunching body checks.
So it was back to business on Wednesday when he was set to head into practice which led him into a very bizarre yet funny situation.
The Funny Story Behind Joshua's First Day at Scotiabank Arena
According to TSN Insider Mike Johnson, while Joshua was walking through the arena to reach the locker room, he apparently strolled right past the door unaware, and bumped into a security guard who brazenly asked if Joshua should be there:
He walked right past it and looked down the hallway toward the media area. I'm like, the room's right here - the big silver doors. He's just never been here before.
Security had a simple question that Joshua had to laugh off:
They're like, 'You play for the Leafs?'
Joshua, 29, was acquired this summer for a fourth-round draft pick in 2028 and was brought in to add much more grit and toughness to the lineup not to mention reunite him with Craig Berube, who gave him
his start in the first place.Anchored to the third line but with the ability to move up and down the lineup depending on the situation, Joshua is looking to bounce back after a season that was marred by a testicular cancer diagnosis.
He has since recovered fully and is
ready to make an impact, and with his knack for scoring (he had 18 goals two seasons ago) he adds some much needed secondary scoring potential, especially alongside fellow newcomer
Nicolas Roy.
Joshua's run in with security brings forth something that has been a central theme this summer which is change.
While the security guard should be up to date with the current roster, it's been largely the same players for years so a mistake was bound to happen.
So it's a bit of a hilarious misunderstanding, and I am sure there is no ill will from Joshua towards the Scotiabank security, but at least the forward is never going to forget where the locker room is from now on.
