Veteran forward Max Domi put the league on notice when it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs and had a stern warning for those who think the team has gotten weaker.
It was a great sign to see Max Domi back and practicing with the team after dealing with not only an injury, but the loss of his grandfather recently as it must have been a bit frustrating for the veteran to be away from the ice; though he had good reason.
Now back with the team, Domi isn't going to let anything get in the way of a bounce back season and with all the additions to the team, it might give him the chance to flourish.
Inside Max Domi's Passionate Comments That Leafs Fans Will Love
However the 30-year-old also came in with a load of confidence and issued a warning to the rest of the league that Toronto isn't going to be one to mess with, and still won't be a walk in the park:
We're going to be hard to play against and I think that's the key. Teams are going to know, when they see our team on the schedule, that's gonna be a tough night.
You gotta back it up, and it starts with the habits at practice, competing against your buddies, and that's hard to do. But, if you do it every single day for the course of the whole season, you're setting yourself up for success.
It seems like when Domi is in the locker room, it's all love but when he steps onto the ice it becomes all business.
Why This Bold Message Could Define the Leafs' Season Ahead
Which is fantastic news for a team who is going through a transition period and trying to instil a new identity and move away from the 'Core Four.'
The whole focus this season is finding balance and becoming a tougher team both physically and mentally, so Domi is
echoing head coach Craig Berube's mindset regarding how the team plays every given night.
They aren't going to have the luxury of enjoying 100 points from
Mitch Marner, so now it becomes more important than ever that when you score, you preserve that lead and that entails your playing hard, playing gritty, and not backing down from the dirtier parts of the game.
But the new additions to the team certainly add that dynamic, and with a lot of baggage gone from the organization, it seems that made them a lot stronger as a unit, something that they need in order to be successful.
Which is great news for Toronto. Awful news for the rest of the NHL.
