A new update on Joseph Woll after his leave of absence has fans concerned as his timeline is going to take a wait and see approach as opposed to a definitive return.
When news broke that Joseph Woll was going to be taking
an indefinite leave of absence in order to deal with some personal matters, it threw then entire Maple Leafs goaltending situation into a tizzy.
Right now, the main focus is making sure that Woll gets back healthy both mentally and physically and the team has more than enough goaltending depth to help out while Woll is away.
But the question now becomes when does he come back? We hear indefinite and think that perhaps maybe it's just a workaround and it'll be a week or two before we see the goaltender back on the ice.
Joseph Woll's Return Date Unknown: Insider
Unfortunately, that's not the case whatsoever.
According to NHL Insider Chris Johnston, it seems that Woll's absence is going to take a much longer time and there is genuinely no timeline, or even rough idea to when he'll be back:
It's not a case where it's like, okay, I'm going to be gone for X amount of days and then I'll be back. I don't think it's clear yet how long this absence is going to be.
Brad Treliving was also less than optimistic with his goaltender coming back, stating that while he will be back eventually, we'll have to wait and see:
How long that is remains to be seen.
It was also noted that the team is not going to rush Woll back into action once he returns and the onus is going to be on
Anthony Stolarz and
Dennis Hildeby to hold down the fort in the meantime.
Fan Reaction and How Toronto Can Handle Things Without Woll
Fans were also supportive of the goaltender, as they just want him to be at his best in all facets of life:
Woll had a fantastic season last year, posting a 27-14-1 record with a 2.73 GAA and .909 SV% and was part of Toronto's record-breaking goaltender duo with Anthony Stolarz.
But the team is well equipped to deal with his absence, as Anthony Stolarz is certainly able to be the #1 starter and Dennis Hildeby has the ability to provide reliable backup service, and was
stellar in his preseason debut. So for now, all we can hope for is that Joseph Woll is healthy and able to get back on the ice, where he needs his focus most.
But there's no rush whatsoever.
