The Toronto Maple Leafs have not made progress in extension talks for Bobby McMann, according to a report.
Bobby McMann and the Toronto Maple Leafs have not made headway on a new contract to the 29-year-old forward, according to David Pagnotta of ‘The Fourth Period’.
Reports have suggested that McMann could be a piece on the trade block for Toronto, especially if the Leafs are to be sellers rather than buyers.
During the Olympics break, Toronto sits seventh in the Atlantic Division with a 27-21-9 record on the season. The Leafs 63 points is two points from last in the division, but six points back of the final wild card spot.
McMann has 19 goals, 13 assists, & 32 games played this season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, on pace for career highs in all three categories.
Toronto Maple Leafs may not get what they want for McMann
The Toronto Maple Leafs may not get the value that they were hoping for with Bobby McMann if their hope was top value for McMann.
The hope is that McMann could net Toronto a first round pick as a return, especially so for a trade deadline board that is lacking in offensive talent, but that may not be the case.
According to Leafs reporter James Mirtle in a recent article for ‘The Athletic’, Mirtle indicated that the Leafs getting a first for McMann may be unlikely, and Toronto may have to settle for two second round picks.
The Leafs are hoping for a first in return here, but McMann may top out at two seconds the way Kiefer Sherwood did last month.
Either way, the Avs would need to dip into their 2027 picks if the bidding reaches that level, as they’ve exhausted their 2026 supply Cup-chasing in years past.

It's another reason that selling is a challenge for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Along with their pathway to contention still in sight, what they might get in a trade as sellers may not be worth giving up by the deadline.
Toronto, who lacks top prospects and draft picks, may still find value in two second round picks, but the Leafs might be disappointed with the reality of the trade market.
