Joseph Woll's Return Timeline Is Taking Shape, But It's Not What Fans Expected

The current return status of Joseph Woll continues to cause uncertainty and confusion amongst fans.
Woll has not appeared for the Leafs this season, and the Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending situation has been in a tailspin, with
Anthony Stolarz given a much heavier workload than he's been able to handle, and backup
Cayden Primeau struggling in limited appearances.
With Woll gone, Toronto has been handed a tough hand, and even now his return has not resulted in anything concrete, despite him practicing, and not much
appears coming soon as apparent relief in net.
A new report has signaled when Joseph Woll may be back in the Leafs lineup, and it's an update that may not excite many fans.
Insider Details Maple Leafs' Careful Plan for Woll's Return
A new report from TSN Hockey insider Chris Johnston indicates that the return of Joseph Woll may take a bit longer for Woll, with no current plan for when he could return to action, signaling his return isn't anytime soon.
Well, there's no crystallized schedule or plan yet with Woll, but a lot of this will depend on how he's feeling.
Obviously he was away from the team for quite some time, and while he did skate a little bit while he was on his own and not with the team, it's not nearly the same as going through a training camp and doing the normal schedule you would have through September. - Chris Johnston
Johnston also said that Woll could be back at some point in November, but it may take a few weeks into the month to get him back in net, but even then is not a finalized decision, and one in which Woll may first get back to speed in the AHL.
I expect he will go to the American Hockey League at some time, but at this point there's no timeline.
But at this point there's no precise plan for that, and so I think that it's going to take a little bit more work for Joseph Woll to get to a spot where he's ramping up and in consideration to take a spot in the crease.

Why Toronto Isn't Rushing the Goalie Back Into Action
Toronto isn't going to bring back Joseph Woll without knowing if he's ready, and seeing the Leafs goaltending issues, the move may be for the best.
The Leafs have been struggling to keep pucks out of the net, and it's been a team effort.
Bringing Woll back and having him caved in wouldn't be the best path forward for him mentally.
Also unknown is where Woll is currently at in his readiness. Pointed out by Chris Johnston, Woll had not appeared with the Leafs this season and missed part of the preseason, only taking part in
an isolated skate a few days ago.
It's unclear what state Woll is in, and if he's ready to return to action this quickly, giving him time may be the best path to ensure Woll is at his best, but comes with the Leafs having to sail with their current options unless a move is done.
For now, Joseph Woll leaves Toronto having to wait for him to be able to return, and their struggles may need a bit more time to sort out, leaving the team to wait for things to be able to get better.
