The eventual return of Joseph Woll has fans excited, and NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has given an update as to when we can all expect that to happen.
News broke earlier this week that not only was Joseph Woll returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but that he was quickly going to be participating in on-ice activities and getting himself ready to make his season debut.
But when he actually takes the ice is a question that we haven't had answered yet, and with the team needing some consistency, a timeline would be great for fans and the lineup alike.
Insider Provides Update on Joseph Woll's Return Timeline
Speaking during the Saturday's Headlines segment, Friedman noted that while Woll is on the LTIR right now, he can't play but when the calendar turns over to November 1st, which is right around the corner:
He's going to rejoin them for practice - because he is on LTIR, he cannot rejoin them for a game situation until November 1st.
I assume there is going to be a conditioning stint but right now, at this point, there is no set idea as to when he'll actually be able to plan an NHL game.
So while there is not a set date as to when Woll is going to play and nailing down a specific game is nigh impossible right now.
But knowing that he can come in for a game situation in less than a week means that within the next couple of weeks we may see him. If there is a conditioning stint in the AHL it is likely only going to be for one or two games, and then he'll be back.
How Woll's Return Impacts the Maple Leafs' Goalie Depth
It may also spell the end for
Cayden Primeau, although he has been fairly decent in his minimal backup appearances, going 2-0-0 with a 3.46 GAA and .875 SV%.
But it's a stunning bit of news considering when Woll was placed on the LTIR it was assumed that he would be missing more time, and not coming back early; which may be due to the desire to facilitate a deal.
One hasn't materialized yet, and when he comes off the list his cap hit is going to hurt the team's flexibility, so perhaps we see something done before Nov. 1 and find a way to balance the books with both their roster and cap space.
Last season, Woll was great alongside Stolarz and posted a 27-14-1 record with a 2.73 GAA and .909 SV%.
Although we can't nail down a specific date as to when Joseph Woll is coming back, the fact he is so soon is a surprise all on its own.
Toronto has struggled mightily without their young netminder but his return could just be the spark needed to get them fired up once again.
