A major prediction gives insight into the likeliness of Mitch Marner's future as a Toronto Maple Leaf.

It seems likely that Mitch Marner's goal is to sign an extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it's all a matter of details the will impact if that re-signing ultimately gets done.
At the very least, Marner will get an increase on his current $10.9M contract signed in 2019, with the focus being on the number from both sides.
According to NHL writer Lyle Richardson, the cost of Marner may make re-signing Marner a challenge, but unless the demanded ask from his camp is too high, he will likely be back with the Toronto Maple Leafs long-term.
Depending on how much Mitch Marner wants, him returning to Toronto isn't a given depending on what's available to him in the open market.

How Much Is Too Much For The Toronto Maple Leafs To Re-Sign Mitch Marner?

Although Marner will likely make more than the $10.9M he's currently making, surely to pass the $11M mark, Marner will still have a major roadblock to get top dollar.
He almost surely will make under the $13.25M that Captain Auston Matthews is currently making in his deal.
Another impact in Marner's extension is the Dallas Stars deal for Mikko Rantanen in which he made $12M in a sign-and-trade.
Rantanen, who projects similarly stats wise to Marner and is the same age, makes clear that Marner has a tough time asking for something in the range of $13M+, although free agency is a much more competitive market than the trade deadline.
Likely to make more than William Nylander at $11.5M yearly , but less than Matthews $13.25M, it seems Marner's contract range is around the $12-12.5M mark, perhaps up to $13M.
More likely, Marner should make around $12.5-13M as a free agent, but if he wants to take a discount, perhaps that 12-12.5M range could be more likely.
Mitch Marner appears willing to be friendly in contract negotiations, but will also be looking for a contract that rivals some of the league's best, with very clear comparables for his potential worth.
