Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alex Kerfoot will be shut down long term as he recovers from surgery the Utah Mammoth announced on Friday.
Alex Kerfoot, who spent four seasons in Toronto, will be out for a few weeks as he underwent a procedure, leaving him out potentially for the rest of 2025.
The Utah Mammoth have announced that forward Alex Kerfoot will miss 8-10 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a core muscle.
Kerfoot was listed as week-to-week back in September with a lower-body injury, and has not appeared for the Mammoth this season, potentially not returning until the beginning of 2026.
Former Maple Leaf Alex Kerfoot To Miss Weeks Due To Surgery
Alex Kerfoot, a former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, will be out for approximately 8-10 weeks at least, making the earliest he'd return in late December, possibly extending his absence to the new year.
Kerfoot, 31, spent four seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, acquired alongside Tyson Barrie in the deal that sent
Nazem Kadri to the Colorado Avalanche in 2019.
Kadri, a player
who has been linked to Toronto as a potential returning player, is currently with the Calgary Flames.
As a member of the Maple Leafs, Kerfoot had a personal record of 38 assists and 51 points in the 2021-22 NHL season, along with 13 goals.
He signed a two-year deal with the Arizona Coyotes, and when the Coyotes ceased operations, Kerfoot was transferred, along with the rest of the team, to the Utah Hockey Club, later the Mammoth.
The 31-year-old has been a key leader for Utah, being a veteran presence in their transition from Arizona to Utah, and a reliable two-way forward who has continued to provide bottom-six talent for the Mammoth.
Kerfoot was a fifth round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, 150th overall. Having been signed by the Devils after his four-year collegiate career with Harvard University, Kerfoot signed with the Colorado Avalanche.
Kerfoot played two seasons with Colorado before being dealt to Toronto during the offseason, currently in his third season with Arizona/Utah, his second with the Mammoth organization.
