Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll has returned to the ice and is resuming on-ice activities as he prepares to come back for the 2025 season.

According to the Toronto Maple Leafs' official PR account on X, goaltender Joseph Woll is going to resume practicing with the club and start his on-ice activities as he eyes a return to the ice.
Woll has been absent since the beginning of the season as he attends to what the team calls a 'personal matter'.
Expected to be a huge part of the Toronto goaltending tandem with Anthony Stolarz, his sudden leave of absence took many by surprise and led to a ton of speculation from fans and media alike.
The team announced they had placed Woll on the LTIR on Thursday, and that means they are going to have some space to make a move, so something might be pending.

Joseph Woll's Return Brings a Much-Needed Boost to the Maple Leafs' Locker Room

Knowing that he was going to return soon may be a shrewd move by GM Brad Treliving to not only get enough money to make a deal, but then have his goaltender waiting in the wings to come back once both can fit into the cap.
But going beyond that, it's some serious good news for the Maple Leafs as they go through a very rough stretch to start the season.
Not only have they had a middling start performance wise (minus William Nylander), but injuries have already destroyed their structure.
Getting Scott Laughton back is going to help, and Woll being around the corner means that at least the team is getting some semblance of normalcy back although the jury is still out on how long Chris Tanev is going to be out for.
Last season, Woll posted a 27-14-1 record with a 2.73 GAA and .909 SV% while adding a shutout; with Stolarz beside him the two were the first duo in franchise history to have 20+ wins each as a goaltender.
His return isn't expected to be for a little bit, but him getting back on the ice is a victory in and of itself, as there was a lot of concern that Woll could miss more than just the first month of the season.
But for now, while we wait and see when he actually will make his 2025 season debut, Joseph Woll is back on the ice for the Maple Leafs.
A hopeful sign of good things to come.
