Former Toronto Maple Leaf Fraser Minten has made the Boston Bruins roster after a strong training camp performance, adding a new dynamic to the heated rivalry.
The 21-year-old Minten had played in 19 games in two seasons for Toronto, including appearing in 15 games in 2024-25 with two goals and four points. Minten had a goal in six games played with Boston after being acquired.
Coming into Bruins training camp as a player on the borderline to make the team, a strong preseason helped get Minten a spot on the lineup for a Boston team needing a punch in their depth.
Fraser Minten Trade Win-Win For Bruins And Maple Leafs
The Minten for Carlo trade so far has been a win-win for Boston and Toronto, with the two rivals seemingly having made a beneficial move that has helped both sides in different ways.
For Boston, they add a more long-term option in Minten who can help their middle-six and brings a two-way punch to a rebuilding Bruins team looking at a new identity following the retirements of their core that was one of the top teams of the 2010's.
On Toronto's side, Carlo has added a highly responsible defensive defenseman that can play on Toronto's top-pair and help
Morgan Rielly play more on the offensive end, allowing Carlo to be the stay-at-home option of the pairing.
The Bruins got a player in Minten who in a few years could take off and be a key contributor for their offense, but the Leafs got a player in Carlo that has been an important piece to their offense and has the chance to grow more this season with more chemistry in Toronto.
Another former Leaf in Nikita Grebenkin has made the Philadelphia Flyers roster, according to reports. The Flyers roster was officially announced late on Monday evening.
However, it is also reported that Grebenkin, who has played on the Flyers top-six alongside Russian compatriot
Matvei Michkov, is currently an extra skater for the team, with head coach Rick Tocchet saying the move is meant to test their roster, which indicates Grebenkin may get his chance in the lineup.
But with him solidified as part of the roster, it will be interesting to see how head coach Rick Tocchet does decide to use him, be it with Michkov or elsewhere.
Not all the young stars made the team as out of the lineup for Philadelphia is rookie
Jett Luchanko, who started last season with the Flyers and won't get a chance unlike Grebenkin.
Luchanko is not eligible to return to the Ontario Hockey League.
Acquired from the Leafs by Philadelphia in exchange for
Scott Laughton, Grebenkin had played in seven games for Toronto last season, and in the AHL for the Flyers affiliate in Lehigh Valley, Grebenkin had seven points in 11 games.
