Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving updated fans and media regarding Joseph Woll's return date, and it looks like still don't have a presumed ETA.

When Joseph Woll took his leave of absence before the preseason kicked off, it threw the Maple Leafs goaltending strategy in disarray, as they were suddenly without a key part of their team heading into a pressure-filled 2025 season.
There's no indication as to what is going on with Woll, though his privacy needs to be respected. It's more frustrating for fans who were looking forward to seeing his progress, only to be stifled yet again at the start of the year.

Brad Treliving Provides Key Update on Joseph Woll's Injury Status

But with the question still being when he's expected to return, many were curious if Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving had any clue as to when he would be back.
Unfortunately for fans, we are going to have to wait a little longer for a true date because as far as Treliving knows; he's not ready yet.
With Woll absent, the onus falls on Anthony Stolarz to handle the bulk of the starts, which is something that he's looking forward to and feels confident he can succeed in doing.
The team also just added Cayden Primeau off waivers and brought him up to the roster as an NHL-ready backup to Stolarz and leaving Dennis Hildeby to be the third-stringer yet again.

Why the Maple Leafs Need Joseph Woll Back to Reignite Last Year's Goalie Tandem

Woll, 27, had a 27-14-1 record last season with a 2.73 GAA and .909 SV%; he and Stolarz were the first Maple Leafs goalie tandem to win 20+ games each in a regular season.
But it's yet another absence for Woll, who has struggled to stay healthy over his career. Last year he started on the IR with a lower-body injury, and was knocked out of the postseason in 2023-24.
The goaltending duo of Woll and Stolarz have really grown together and the latter has had nothing but the utmost praise for the growth and maturity of Woll even though faced with a ton of speed bumps.
Without Woll, the team can certainly handle the load but it's not going to feel the same. It's been a long time since Toronto had a homegrown goaltender who came up through the ranks to lead to the team to glory.
He was expected to be the future of the team, and while he's still got a lot of time left to make his mark, he needs to make sure he can keep himself on the ice first.
