Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube may make some lineup changes ahead of Game 5, as the team needs to do something to bounce back after two losses.
With Game 5 set to take part from Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday, the Maple Leafs are going to try and salvage what was once a 2-0 series lead into a 3-2 lead after
two dismal showings in Florida.Craig Berube's team has to be better in Game 5, and with their stars seemingly forgetting how to score, coupled with the injury to
Anthony Stolarz; things aren't looking good.
Craig Berube Leaves Options Open Ahead Of Crucial Game 5
Several players have been noticeably absent this postseason, and with a critical game at home coming up, they would do well to change it up a little bit.
Which is why it's both surprising and not to hear that the Leafs bench boss might be thinking of changing things up back home:
We'll look at a couple of options and what we think will be best for the team.
We've got a couple of days to think about it, and see if we feel there's a better option.
There's a few things that Berube can do in order to to shake things up.
If he decided to keep with his standard lineup of players, perhaps switching them around in the lineup itself might do some good. Minus the second line, there could be a lot of swapping that could bring results.
They could also break up the third and fourth lines by adding
Scott Laughton to the third line while demoting Domi or
Pontus Holmberg to bottom line, where the pressure it a bit less than it would be otherwise.
Robertson hasn't played since Game 2 against Ottawa after being benched for a bad penalty.
I think he learned his lesson by now, and with McMann, Domi and
Calle Jarnkrok all struggling; he'd be a welcome addition.
He's known to come off a scratch and contribute, and not touching the second round has to be irritating him a bit, and he should get a chance to at least try and contribute.
Kampf on the other hand hasn't played once yet this postseason, and while his $2.4M cap hit doesn't matter, it's still a bit bizarre that Berube hasn't given him a look over Holmberg or Jarnkrok (though the former has his positives).
Knowing how relentless Florida is on the forecheck, having a defensive specialist like Kampf in the lineup could at least alleviate some of the pressure on Toronto's other centers.
It's not the most mind-blowing changes in the world, but a different look while taking out some detriments could be a legitimate game changer.
At this point, Toronto needs to throw whatever at the wall and see what sticks, or they won't be sticking around too much longer.
