As the Maple Leafs head into Game 7 against Florida, they will be without Anthony Stolarz once again, as his status for the rest of playoffs is now in serious doubt.
It's not going to be easy for the Maple Leafs as they take on the Panthers in
a do or die Game 7; Toronto is trying to secure their first Conference Finals in over 20 years, while Florida is aiming to continue their quest for a repeat championship.
Toronto was in a good spot before Anthony Stolarz got hurt, and while they have had a tough journey, they've persevered and made it this far.
He no doubt would have made the series a bit easier, but it's clear he won't be a factor in the second round.
Unfortunately, a new update shows that he might not be a factor in the playoffs at all, even if Toronto advances.
Reports show that the Maple Leafs goaltender has not been skating, still reeling from the effects of
Sam Bennett's elbow in Game 1.
That's not great news considering the progress he was seemingly making, even being on the ice the other day.
Anthony Stolarz Not Seen Skating; Playoffs In Jeopardy
Terrible news actually, for Toronto, because if
they can get through the Panthers, they await the ever dangerous Carolina Hurricanes in the Conference Finals. Stolarz would no doubt aid them in that battle, but it seems like it's
Joseph Woll's time.
That won't be the easiest task in the world for the young goaltender, but if he can build off his exceptional Game 6 performance and help Toronto through some tough spots, it makes the injury to Stolarz sting a lot less; though it still hurts.
Woll has been shaky at points this postseason, but if his Game 6 production is any indication, then Toronto should be in good hands going forward.
He's posted a 3-3-0 record since coming in for Stolarz in Game 1; his first action of the playoffs.
A 3.28 GAA and .893 SV% maybe aren't the best numbers, and he's more than capable of improving those in Game 7, where he's got some history helping him.
Before being knocked out,
Stolarz was his usual standout self. Posting a 4-2-0 record with a 2.19 GAA and .901 SV%, he helped Toronto secure the series win against Ottawa, and was keeping Florida at bay in Game 1 before leaving.
Though this news isn't the best fans or his teammates can hope for, all we can hope is that Stolarz's injury doesn't affect his career going forward, but it seems the Leafs playoff hopes lay in the hands of Joseph Woll.
