Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz commented on how his first season with the team went and more in an interview with Toronto Sports Rush on Friday.
Both Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll ended up playing stellar and being a huge reason why the team was able to win the Atlantic; and if Stolarz hadn't been hurt then things might have been different.
Heading into the final year of his two-year deal, Stolarz has something to prove to not only earn himself an extension but to etch his names in the annals of Maple Leafs history should he win a Cup.
He seemed all focused last season and that seemingly continues into this season. It seems that last year was a very memorable and exciting year for Stolarz, and he made that clear recently.
Inside Stolarz's Bond With Joseph Woll and Coach Craig Berube
It was pretty fun. Obviously you get there, and hear some stories about the media and the fans but I thought it was a good year, it wasn't too much for me.
I'm a pretty easygoing guy so I think that helps, I'm not on social media, so I really don't see any of the stuff that's put out, I just focus on myself and what I can control.
The veteran goalie also explained his close relationship with fellow goaltender Joseph Woll and head coach Craig Berube.
For Woll:
It's actually unbelievable. He's such a good guy, and we have the same agent so we were introduced almost immediately. I got to camp and we hit it off right away, and me, him, Matt Murray and even Hildeby, we have a great relationship.
We all understand we want the same thing and push each other but we don't let that affect us off the ice.
In terms of his head coach:
I actually had him for a training camp or two in Philly but you get called up and sent down, it was only a quick introduction back then. You don't wanna step on his toes though; he's great with the goalies though.
He leaves it to Curtis Sanford (Toronto's goalie coach) and kind of just communicates what he wants, but I loved playing for Chief this year; his style of play goalies love and it was evident with the numbers me and Waller [Woll] put up.
How Injuries and the Panthers Series Shaped His First Year in Toronto
Seems like Stolarz has a very solid foundation in his short time thus far in Toronto, but seemed to be a little irked with how last season ended and how his injury played out:
I remember everything that happened. I think it was more or less the nausea that kept me out, but once that subsided over a few days, I was back to normal and back on my feet.
Obviously you look back at the end of the day, they were the team that came out on top, and that's how people are going to see it but I am extremely proud of the way the team battled and how we were able to push them.
While it didn't end the way the team or fans had hoped for, Stolarz did have a concussion and was out the remainder of the series. He did dress for Game Seven but never skated; which is unfortunate especially knowing he could have dressed.
But otherwise his first year could be considered a resounding success. Stolarz posted a 21-8-3 record with a .926 SV% and 2.14 GAA with four shutouts, and may have been in Vezina contention had he not been injured in December.
Going into this season he has a lot of pressure and is going to be expected to replicate his prior production. But if anyone can do it, it's Stolarz and he seems ready for whatever 2025-26 throws his way.
