A Boston Bruins forward has gone on waivers, and he could be a fit for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Update (Nov. 18, 2:30PM): It was announced Tuesday afternoon that the Calgary Flames had claimed Beecher off waivers from the Bruins.
Placed on waivers today by the Boston Bruins is centreman
John Beecher, with the 23-year-old former first round pick on the block.
Beecher was drafted by Boston in the first round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, 30th overall, and played three years in the NCAA with the University of Michigan.
Entering his third season in Boston, Beecher has appeared in six games for the Bruins with a single point. In 136 career NHL games, Beecher has 11 goals and 22 points.
What Value Does John Beecher Bring To Potential Teams?
John Beecher is a physical 6'3 forward who is capable of playing as a pure centre and can be a fourth-liner for a team, and provide defensive reliability.
Elliotte Friedman, when discussing Beecher, said that he views the Montreal Canadiens as a team needing centre help, and that the Vancouver Canucks are a team he'd imagine having looked at him.
The Canucks
recently signed former Leafs centre
David Kampf to a one-year deal on Saturday, with the Canadiens having been in talks for the 30-year-old.
Despite the signing of Kampf, Friedman's report indicates the Canucks are not done examining options in adding to their forward group.
Are The Toronto Maple Leafs A Fit For Beecher?
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that on paper could make sense to claim a player like Beecher off of waivers.
As a young forward with size who can play down the middle, Beecher very well could have some value in the eyes of Toronto.
But the role Beecher fills could too be filled with recently recalled forward Jacob Quillan, a player who shares much of the same traits as Beecher but has been in the system longer and shows more on offense.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that could look at John Beecher, but having already claimed a forward earlier in the season in
Samuel Blais, and with Quillan currently in the lineup, Toronto may not see a spot for Beecher on the roster.
