Former Leaf David Kampf signs with Vancouver days after having his contract terminated by Toronto.
David Kampf has signed with the Vancouver Canucks on a one-year, $1.1M contract, the team announced.
Kampf, 30, was previously with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but was
placed on waivers Thursday for the purpose of terminating his contract.
The Czech forward was assigned to the Toronto Marlies to start the season, appearing in four games in the AHL before abruptly leaving the team and
being suspended by the Leafs after not returning.
Kampf had been reportedly narrowing down his choice for a new team between three teams, according to Elliotte Friedman having been the Canucks, Penguins, & Canadiens.
David Kampf Finds New Home In Vancouver
Kampf is an eight-year NHL veteran who has played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs, having five goals and 13 points in 59 games played last season for Toronto.
The Vancouver Canucks are a team that fits Kampf's style of play, adding in Kampf a forward who plays aggressive and adds a veteran presence on a young bottom-six.
The biggest value Kampf brings to Vancouver is his ability to be a penalty killer. The Canucks rank last in the NHL with a 66.1% successful PK rate, Kampf having featured extensively on the Leafs penalty kill throughout his tenure.
Kampf may slot onto the Canucks fourth line and move one of
Linus Karlsson and
Max Sasson back to the AHL, although both have earned their spots on Vancouver's lineup.
The Canucks play the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow, which could mark Kampf's debut with Vancouver.
